About

About us

We started in 2008 as a two-man firm in Swarzędz. Today there are 42 of us, with 9 installation crews and our own service department. This is how we work.

About us

Where we come from

Bielak & Sowa was founded in 2008 by two tradesmen: Tomasz Bielak, a heating installer, and Leszek Sowa, a refrigeration and air conditioning technician. They started with one van and a garage in Swarzędz, fitting gas boilers, radiators and split air conditioners, mostly for friends and friends of friends.

We fitted our first air-to-water heat pumps in 2012, almost all of them in new houses around Poznań. The founders' two trades turned out to be a good match for this work: a heat pump is a refrigeration machine connected to a heating system, so you need to understand both. Heat recovery ventilation followed, then service as a separate department, and in 2025 a commercial department.

  • 2008: start in Swarzędz with two people. Gas boilers, radiators, split air conditioning.
  • 2012: first air-to-water heat pumps in new houses around Poznań.
  • 2015: heat recovery ventilation becomes a separate team.
  • 2017: move to our own office, warehouse and workshop in Poznań. 15 people.
  • 2019: conversion to a limited company (sp. z o.o.) and a service department with its own dispatcher.
  • 2021-2023: the Czyste Powietrze and Moje Ciepło programmes bring a wave of coal boiler replacements. The team grows to 35.
  • 2024: the new EU F-gas Regulation (2024/573) comes into force. We train our crews on propane (R290) units.
  • 2025: commercial department for offices, shops and warehouses.
  • 2026: 42 people and about 1,900 heat pumps installed in the region.

How we work

Each job has one person on our side who runs it from the site visit to handover. You have their phone number and never have to explain everything again to someone new.

Before we give a price, we calculate the building's heat demand. In existing houses we look at insulation, windows, fuel use over the last few seasons and the radiators already on the walls. Only then do we choose the unit. An oversized heat pump runs in short cycles and wears faster. An undersized one leans on its electric heater and pushes the bills up.

Our own crews do the installation, not subcontractors. A crew is usually two or three fitters with a crew leader. After commissioning the system passes to the service department, which has the documentation and photos from the job.

What matters to us

  • Calculations before the quote. We do not size a heat pump over the phone from floor area alone. Floor area is not enough information.
  • We say when something does not make sense. If a house has very poor insulation and small radiators, we will recommend insulating or replacing radiators first. Sometimes that means we do not get the job.
  • Itemised quotes. Unit, accessories, materials, labour, commissioning. You can see what you are paying for and compare it with other quotes.
  • A clean site. We protect floors, clean up after ourselves and take away old equipment and packaging.
  • Service after installation. We make about 3,400 service visits a year. Clients with a service contract wait no more than 48 hours in the heating season, and when the heating is off we usually come the same day.

Qualifications and training

The company holds an F-gas company certificate issued by UDT-CERT, and the fitters who work on air conditioning and heat pumps hold personal F-gas certificates. The company pays for staff certification. Our electricians hold SEP qualification certificates for operating electrical equipment. Fitters and service technicians regularly attend training run by the manufacturers whose equipment we install, including installation and service of heat pumps using R290 refrigerant.
